Flapps & Sneaks

Have you ever seen a piece of clothing online and thought, "That could be cute. But I'm not sure if I could pull it off. But since its already on sale, and 50% off that, then I guess I will buy it." Well, I had one of those moments. And. It. Turned. Out. Awesome. This dress looked ten times better than I thought it was going to. I got it from LOFT for only $6 because it was 50% off of it already being on sale. I thought it wasn't going to work because I knew it would be loose fitting and I didn't want it hanging off my chest and it making me look bigger than I actually was. But to my surprise, I did the opposite. It actually made my chest look smaller which was an awesome feeling.

The Taste of Toccoa is a festival that my town holds every year where the restaurants set up tents downtown and people eat. They have some awesome food there every year, and I decided to wear my dress to the Taste. Since it was 80° out, but still a little breezy, I brought along my denim jacket just in case. The Taste is very casual so I wanted to dress down this adorable dress, so I added my denim sneakers, my monogram necklace, and my Dooney &Bourke cross-body purse.

When wearing a flapper dress, remember to keep it simple. The dress has so much going on with the tiers, you don't want to over do it with big accessories. I dressed it down with the denim sneaks and jacket, but you can do some amazing things with some wedges and pretty bracelets. Enjoy the warm weather!

Orange & Distressed

Spring is in the air! A few weeks ago, I started my search for the perfect light washed distressed denim for the spring. And after a long hard search, I didn't find them. And then, when I least expected it, I found the perfect ones! I got them at Gap on a 40% off day, so they ended up being about $40. I know right?! Awesome. This shirt was on the sale rack (in Gap), and because it had a small stain on the collar, it was marked damaged and brought down to $15! Originally $69, can you say steal!!

I love love love my tassel necklace and spiked bracelet. But I still don't have the bracelet (or necklace) collection that I would like to have. I wanted a colorful bracelet to pair with the gorgeous orange top, and I didn't have one, so I found a piece that had the color I wanted. It was one of my necklaces! And I thought to myself, "Why haven't I thought of this before?" I worked SO well! So you will definitely start seeing some more posts with necklaces featured as bracelets!

And those denim sneakers I got at you'll never guess where . . . Wal-Mart!! And they were only $6. Sometimes, I get embarrassed when shopping at Wal-Mart, because let's face it, most of the time, we don't want to admit to people that we got that top from Wally World. But after finding some great pieces for less than a third of the price I would pay for them in the retail world, I started to overcome that fear. And truthfully, they are not the worst quality in the world. A few years ago, I got a red pair of sneakers for about $7, and they are still kicking. So don't underestimate the big W.

So ladies (and gents!), things to glean from this post:

1. Keep searching for that perfect pair of jeans, they WILL come around
2. Don't be afraid to mix up how you normally style your jewelry
3. Don't be embarrassed of where you shop! A deal is a deal, and a cute top is a cute top.

Have a great day! And remember that you are unique and beautiful in your own way!

DIY Monogram Tumbler

Welcome to my second DIY series! I've been seeing those adorable monogramed tumblers everywhere, and I decided to make my own! I found the tumblers (that I have been eying for a while) at Walmart on Sale for $3! So I got one for me and some others for the ladies in my for Easter. I like to paint, so I already had the colors I needed. And I found the Tervis® Lids at Bed Bath and Beyond for 4 for $12. So I ended up spending $24 for 4 tumblers, and about $6 per cup. And compared to a retail bought one which averages at about $25 not including the monogram, I think $6 per cup is pretty awesome! So I will share so you can make your own!

What you'll need:
- Tumbler
- Lids (Optional)
- Clear top coat nail polish
- Paints (Acrylic)
-Brushes
- Tape

For the monogram, I downloaded a circle monogram (or you can do a traditional monogram) from Printable Monograms, typed in my initials, and then redrew it onto a small paper in the size that I wanted. For the size of the circle, I took a small mason jar lid and traced the outside so that it would be perfect. Then I divided the circle into three sections with a ruler so that they would be even letters.

Then I placed the monogram inside the tumbler and taped it so that I could transfer it onto the cup. (Make sure to put it down and look at it after you tape it on so that it is level and even. The last thing you want it to get finished and it be off balance or crooked.)

After placing the monogram inside the tumbler, I then traced it with a very light sharpie. (Don't do it with a dark color because it might be hard to paint over.) Next, I took off the paper monogram, and painted the white over the sharpie outline. (It is easier to paint the white before the finish color because it limits the coats of the last color and also makes it brighter.)

After the white coat, I then mixed up my pink color and painted over the white. I did about 3 or 4 coats to make sure it was as pink as possible. It's great painting with acrylics on plastic because it can scratch off if you mess up or need to clean up some edges. When the paint was dry, I needed to put on a hard coat of something so the paint wouldn't scratch off. So I ended up putting a coat of clear top coat nail polish, and it worked GREAT!! However, be very careful when you put this coat on because it will NOT come off the plastic. If you do get it on the clear part, do NOT try to get it off with nail polish remover. I tried this, and it ate the plastic up and made it cloudy. So your best option is to just leave it on there if you mess up.

So here is the finished product! I paired my pink monogram with a pretty navy Tervis® lid. I LOVED the way it turned out, so I made some for my the ladies in my family too! Since it was Easter, I did some bright pretty spring colors. In the end I wish I had more tumblers that I could do!

So there you have it! Hope the DIY-ing goes well! Tel me how it goes and share your creations!

However, if you don't feel like DIY-ing your own, you can get some online at Swoozies.com: Traditional Tumbler, Goblet Tumbler, Lids. And shop around for some other goodies on their amazing site! Have fun!!

Easter 2014

Happy (late) Easter lovelies! I hope your day was as amazing as mine. I got to spend mine with my family in North Carolina (@ the beach). We went to church on Saturday night, then got up for the sunrise service on the beach, which was beyond beautiful. This dress I had got on my most recent trip to Gap for 40% off, so it ended up being about $40. The shoes are last years Target line, and the newly acquired purse is Ralph Lauren (grabbed from TJ Maxx for $190 $70). And you won't believe where I got these sunnies... Walmart!! For five bucks.Yeah, major score. This is the outfit I aspired to wear on Easter, thinking it would be warm and sunny at the beach.

Pearl Necklace: Feral Outfitters

Me and my family carry a curse. Every time we visit my family at the beach or go to Helen (a German destination town in GA), bad weather follows us. And lo and behold, it was raining in Wilmington on Easter, so I ended up wearing these pink flats and my jean jacket to deal with the wet cold.

Hope you all had a great Easter! Show me your outfit and tell me how you spent your day!
