One Room Challenge | Week 6: The Master Bedroom Reveal

I hope everyone had a fun and productive One Room Challenge this round! I started out with no direction, made a mood board, and went almost the complete opposite way. It was a big learning experience for me and again I found myself being thankful for such an encouraging community. 6 weeks of crazy running around and making long drives to get products, but sitting in my bed writing this post makes it all worth it. Without further ado, head straight to the good stuff.

One Room Challenge | Week 5: Final Paint Color

Week 5 of the One Room Challenge was a good one. I took a break from social media and man was it refreshing. Last week I was stumped on the paint color for our master walls since I thought I was going to go dark until I actually had dark walls and hated them. Last Thursday the rug finally came in and eased my mind a little. It was so much lighter in person than on AllModern and I could hold it up to all my new swatches to see how they would compliment each other. I painted few dozen mid tone grays, a few lighter grays and didn't love any of them. I sat down to think hard about what color would make the rug and the headboard the stars of the show. It hit me like a ton of bricks - the Spring Makeover Kid's Playroom

One Room Challenge | Week 4: Paint Fail Lessons

As the title implies, I painted our room and didn't love the color. So you could stop reading now and still get the gist of my progress this week. But if you've made it this far, I actually learned some pretty valuable personal and design lessons from my paint saga.

One Room Challenge | Week 3: Paint Swatches

I could look at paint colors for an infinite amount of time. Each one is so unique and has so many different colors within it. This week I went to Home Depot and started my search for the perfect shade for our master. I can make an argument for each one of the paint swatches and why each one is the best color for this space.  Nonetheless, five colors entered and only one can survive. Welcome to Week 3 of the One Room Challenge.

One Room Challenge | Week 2: The Mood Board

The One Room Challenge Week 2 was a bit crazy in the Jones household. About 3 weeks ago our sink and shower stopped working, so we decided to pull the trigger on replacing all the galvanized plumbing with PVC. It was past time to do it we really were just waiting until we had the money anyways. We scheduled it and he quoted us with a day and a half to complete the job. No big deal, we’d just stay with my parents. Long story short he got in there and found more wrong than he thought and the job took from Friday morning until Monday evening... so I lost all weekend to do anything in our master. But luckily a mood board can be done on my laptop, remotely, and with mojitos in hand.

One Room Challenge | Week 1: The Master Befores & Plans

September, October, and November are arguably busier than April, May, and June for us. September I do the $100 Room Challenge (check out the full bathroom reveal if you haven't yet) and  head straight in to the October/November One Room Challenge, plus all the major holidays and family get togethers. I thought I had resigned to not doing the ORC this fall, but here I am at 10 o'clock on Wednesday night getting on the band wagon again. It really gives me the motivation and focus to complete an entire space instead of doing a little here and a little there.

If you're not familiar with the One Room Challenge, bloggers (and Instagramers this year!) have 6 weeks and an unlimited budget to transform an entire space. It spans two months, which means I'm usually working with a $400 budget ($200 a month).  For the Spring challenge I did our guest room that also functions as my closet and last fall our home office had a massive face lift. This round I'm finally going to give some attention to our master bedroom.

$100 Room Challenge | Week 4: The Full Bathroom Reveal

Every reveal day is like Christmas. I get to compare where a space started out to where it is today. Today I get to share our bathroom renovation we complete for just (90¢ over) $100 in 4 short weeks. One of those weeks I spent out of town so it really was only 3 weeks!

$100 Room Challenge | Week 3: Painting the Walls White

Week 3 of the $100 Room Challenge is not a super exciting post for us, so bear with me. I painted the white walls... white. Also all the prep that comes with painting like caulking, spackling, and sanding - which if you've ever done a painting project you know a good paint job is made up of 90% good prep job. If you haven't seen the past few weeks of this challenge you can catch up below.

$100 Room Challenge | Week 2: Refreshing the Hex Tile

September is hurricane season and in Georgia we are preparing for the backlash of Florence. Everyone is headed in-land from the coast and traffic patterns are crazy. The second week of the $100 Room Challenge is usually pretty non-eventful for me. I'm still in the undecided planning zone still wondering which direction to take the space. This week I turned my attention to our 60 year old matte black hex tile floor.

Utilizing the Useless Space Above the Cabinets

Do you have an awkward empty space above your cabinets? Once we installed this side of the kitchen when there was 0 cabinets there before, we totally had one of those spaces. It nagged at me for 2 years and I finally found a way to utilize all that dead space. I just had to build it myself.

$100 Room Challenge | Week 1: The Bathroom Befores & Plans

There's nothing that gets my heart pumping like choosing a space to tackle for the $100 Room Challenge the night before your post goes live. I finally settled on our full bathroom. It is our only full bathroom, is pretty small, and has 0 storage. The biggest goal for this round is to finally get a real coat of paint on the walls to cover up the 3 different kinds of paint sheen, possibly find a pendant light, and mainly make some storage options.

The tile work wasn't terrible when we moved in and was probably the best room in the house. Hence, why we haven't done anything to the space in 2 years. But it's finally time! I'm have no idea how many things we'll fit in the budget this time, so this round will be extra fun.

If you don't know what the $100 Room Challenge is, you can read about it on Erin's blog. Basically we take one space and make it over in just one month with only a $100 budget. It stretches our creative juices and gives the extra motivation to tackle a space.

This challenge has already helped me make over our half bath, our carport, our hallway closet.

Here's how it looked 2 years ago when we moved in.

Refreshing the Carport Pit for $50

Last fall I participated in my second $100 Room Challenge where I renovated our carport. For some reason our driveway  has a square piece of uncovered ground right next to a downspout. Before the complete landscaping renovation it was overrun with weeds and thorns. But I still didn't get a few things right the first go around so I wanted to give it a refresh. If you've been following along with my InstaStories you've seen all the behind the scenes during this project. If you missed it, you can catch them all on my highlighted "Carport" stories.

Disguising the Guest Room Shoe Rack with Paint

The guest room doubles as my closet and vanity. We have small closets and having a dedicated desk where I can get ready is really helpful. The downside is I also have to store all my shoes on an ugly pre-fab shoe rack in there.

Installing Feet on the Couch

Thanks for welcoming me back from my blogging (and social media) hiatus, it's amazing what some time off to focus on yourself can do.

I'm 99% sure everyone has those tiny tasks you just can't seem to take the time out of your day to do it. It's not that it would cost a fortune or even take that much time, but it just sits there and sits there, un-tackled. For us, that was the replacement feet for our love seat. When the couch got moved from Atlanta to this house the feet got lost and we have lived with it sitting right on the floor for 2. YEARS. You might not think couch feet would make that big of a difference both sitting on it or looking at it - but it does.

One Room Challenge | Week 6: Modern Guest Room Reveal

Phew! That's how I feel after 6 weeks of procrastination and spring through the last 7 days. The One Room Challenge has come to an end for the guest room makeover. As per the norm, I've gotten sick this past week and had the busiest week at work that I'll have all year. BUT we got it done and Auston can barely peel me out of this space.  If this is your first time here, you can check the past 5 weeks posts below (Week 1 is really the best).

One Room Challenge | Week 5: Vertical Board & Batten

Reveals out the wazoo this month! Between last week's closet reveal, this week's playroom reveal, and next week's One Room Challenge reveal, I am going to be having some celebratory drinks after it's all over. It's week 5 and crunch time! Everyone is wrapping up their spaces and per my M.O. I still have large chunks to complete and shopping to do.

You can visit all the One Room Challenge guest room posts below. This space has already come so far and this next week is going to be fun.

Low-Budget Kids Playroom Makeover

Last week we revealed the closet makeover we tackled in 24 hours, and you guys were so encouraging. It was our first spring makeover and our first time renovating someone else's space. I started planning the space #2 for our Spring Makeovers as soon as I saw the before picture back in February! This kid's playroom was just begging to be transformed into a space for this baby girl where she could grow and foster her imagination. It also gave me an excuse to play with using colors, since I tend to be drawn more towards neutrals. Although, I still chose white walls as the perfect canvas to display toys, books, and can grow with her. With a $150 budget goal, we started to get to work!

New Farm Table for the Dining Room

We hardly eat at our dining room table. We're either on different lunch hours or just plop in front of the tv for dinner to watch the Office. Partly because it's just us two, but mostly because the table is usually covered with stuff. And since it is so small, it doesn't take much to  cover it up! But this weekend, we moved in a big, beautiful farm table.

One Room Challenge | Week 4: Painted Ceiling Fan

Yesterday we revealed our Spring Makeover space #2 we completed this weekend, and needless to say that's where all our time went this weekend. So it'll be a super short post today guys, but you know how it goes! We've had this fan base sitting on the guest room ceiling since we moved in with no blades and terrible brass colors. Week 4 of the One Room Challenge gave me the motivation I needed to finally take it down and paint everything.

Small Closet Gets A 24 Hour Makeover For Less Than $700

Back in February, we polled our readers for spaces to makeover during the spring. It was our first time renovating someone else's space, so we took our time picking two we knew could be tackle by ourselves and within the spring timeline. This small closet rose to the top with weird/small dimensions but incredibly important function that obviously not being used in the best way. And the best part... we completed it in under 24 hours! (not counting sleeping hours)

One Room Challenge | Week 3: Making a Hard Wired Sconce into a Plug-In

Everyone participating in the One Room Challenge during week 3 starts to paint, install, construct their rooms, whereas I always drag my feet. I have tons of ideas and are usually hesitant to start something that will completely change the room - thus, my last minute decision on doing board and batten on my Stories. So in lieu of a super room transforming post (hopefully that'll be next week), I rewired this swing arm sconce I bought last year. Living in a house built in the 60's has is advantages, but good wiring is not one of them. Instead of messing with hardwiring this guy to the wall, I decided to turn it into a plug-in with an in line switch. By not hard wiring guests won't have to get out of bed to turn the light off, the switch will be right next to them. Now let's show you how I did it!

One Room Challenge | Week 2: The Mood Board and Plans

Week 2 of the One Room Challenge is always the most difficult for me because it's the planning week. Normally I have a general idea on which direction to take my ORC spaces, but this time was not the same. I'm to the point in my Instagram journey where I've found a lot of great (mostly professional) designers that I follow - meaning I get tons of inspiration every. single. time. I'm on the Gram. I got to the point on Monday where I just had inspiration overload and had to stop looking at other spaces.

One Room Challenge | Week 1: Guest Bedroom Befores

I can't believe it's been a year since our laundry room makeover and 5 months since the home office! It's spring time and the One Room Challenge has rolled around again. I had a hard time deciding if I was going to do this challenge or not, and really only made a decision last night. Since I have a busy spring and am doing two other spaces outside of my house I was afraid I wouldn't have enough time to put into this round. But after thinking about it, I realized one of the spaces I'm almost finished with and the other I'm going to knock out in one weekend. And this challenge really give me motivation to better my own spaces. So let's do it!

The Guide to Everything We Did in San Francisco

Auston worked his butt off the past year to get us on the Panama/Costa Rica trip, and they did so well that we qualified for a small trip. So last week we spent a few days in San Francisco. It was both of our second times being there but we were both really young so it was great to experience the city with adult eyes. Spending 5 days and 4 nights we had a pretty well rounded trip and got to do all of the site seeing and relaxing we wanted to. So here's what we did, where we stayed, and most importantly everywhere we ate.

We Found a Space(s)! Where Our Spring Makeovers Are Taking Us

First of all, thank all of you who sent us your spaces and stories behind them! We haven't been doing this long and don't claim to be experts, but our hearts were warmed when so many of our readers welcomed us into your home and trusted us. I honestly was not expecting anyone to actually be interested, but when the first one rolled in I teared up haha! Then the next one came in and my jaw just hit the floor every time! In fact there were so many, I narrowed it down to two we could accomplish over the next few months.

There was not one space that I saw that didn't have a ton of potential. Some already had some renovations, some had not been touched, and some just needed some TLC. In fact, we had such a variety of spaces we couldn't narrow it down to just one... so we picked TWO spaces!

$100 Room Challenge | Week 5: Modern Hall Closet Reveal

January flew by (especially when you spend a week in another country) and the end of January means another $100 Room Challenge reveal. This season we refreshed our hall closet which is our main storage area in the house. In just 4 weeks we took our closet that became a catch-all for anything and everything and turned it into a functional space.

The Guide to Everything We Did in Panama & Costa Rica

You may have noticed I was pretty quite over on Instagram last week - well, we were in Panama & Costa Rica for a whole week! Last year Auston and my dad's insurance agency worked hard and did so good that they earned a two trips to Central America.  I don't like posting about it while we're gone, but we got back on Saturday and this week is going to be full of posting all the fun pictures (1,051 pictures to be exact) we took. Here's a quick guide to everywhere we stayed, everywhere we ate, and everything we did. Granted, for most people you'll be paying for all the lodging and extra curricular activities, so this is definitely not a budget-friendly recommendation guide.

$100 Room Challenge | Week 4: Staining the Shelves

I’ve been writing posts for a while now, and I still never know how to start them. So there’s the not-optional awkward first sentence. Week 4 of the $100 Room Challenge may not seem like we did that much but that’s because we had to stretch this challenge over 5 weeks instead of 4 and this makeover didn’t have as much hard labor as the previous challenges we’ve done.

$100 Room Challenge | Week 3: Cutting & Installing Shelves

I am so excited to finish this hall closet makeover. Partially because it has to be done soon and partially because I'm ready to get all the stuff out of the guest room. One more week of process photos then the reveal! Last week we got all of the walls painted and fauxlaped, this week I got all of the shelves cut and put in place. This is a short post, let's get into it.

Upgrading to Screwless Outlets and Switches in 30 Minutes

One thing you're almost guaranteed to run into when you buy an old house is outdated outlets and switches. Most of them don't match and some of them might even still be two pronged. But you don't feel like taking that hour and that wallet to update them all. Thankfully, Legrand's Radiant collection comes to the rescue with a modern and affordable line of switches and outlets. With several different types of outlets and switches (USB/wifi-controlles/dimmers/home automation) and in several colors (even metallic!), you're sure to step up your outlet game.

$100 Room Challenge | Week 2: Paint & Fauxlap

Week 2 of the $100 Room Challenge was so satisfying. Painting covers a multitude of sins and this week it covered the ugly yellow-white walls. I have to finish this challenge by next weekend and get all the pictures taken and post written so I will be kicking into high gear this weekend. Keep an eye on my InstaStories to see the real-time progress and behind the scenes.

$100 Room Challenge | Week 1: The Hallway Befores & Plan

It's day 3 of 2018 and we are already embarking on our next project: the hallway closet. Picking a space was a toss up between the hall and the full bathroom and as usual I didn't decide until yesterday which space we'd take on for the January season. They are the only two spaces completely untouched since we moved in - and boy can you tell when you walk by it. It's the 4th season for the $100 Room Challenge and we have more bloggers participate every time. This is our third time participating, the first time we remodeled the half/master bath and last time we refreshed the carport. Over the next four weeks and with only $100 we will be transforming this dingey eyesore into a functional and pretty space (fingers crossed).
